Each February, we celebrate Black History Month. It is a month for us to reflect on and recognize the past and look to and hope for the future. At the Utah Jazz, we do so by identifying inequalities and injustices, and by striving to support and uplift the Black community in Utah.
Each February, we celebrate Black History Month. It is a month for us to reflect on and recognize the past and look to and hope for the future. At the Utah Jazz, we do so by celebrating Black communities through education, empowerment, and engagement, and by striving to support and uplift the Black community in Utah. This year, we are launching The Black Book and The Black Book Bazaar.
The Black Book was inspired by The Green Book, a guide for Black travelers in the Jim Crow South. Published throughout the mid-1900s, Victor Hugo Green created this guidebook to help Black Americans find safe havens in businesses that would welcome them along their journey. In a time of discrimination, intolerance, racism, and violence, this guide proved to be indispensable. Today, The Black Book by the Utah Jazz aims to identify Black-owned businesses around Utah to support their ventures and highlight their stories.

In February, select Black-owned businesses from The Black Book will be welcomed into the Delta Center. During select home games throughout the month, as the Jazz face off against their opponents, these featured businesses will showcase their offerings at The Black Book Bazaar on the arena concourse. Come to the games and get to know local Black-owned businesses!
